LAND ROVER FOR SALE

56,000 miles and everything that falls off a Land Rover within weeks of its 50k Warranty expiring has already fallen off, and been put back on again, at great cost to me. Horrible gas mileage, might be ideal for hilly San Francisco, just dont turn the steering wheel while coasting or it'll lock. No guarantee it can build up enough speed to jump the hills like in movies either, not a good getaway vehicle **see footnote.

Pros
Suits dirt
'Up Yer Kilt' bumper sticker included
'Do Not Wash, This Vehicle is Undergoing a Scientific Dirt Experiment' bumper sticker included
'Ecosse' bumper sticker included
Large boot space comfortably seats 2 large dogs

Cons
1 lady Owner
Gas Mileage
Bumper Sticker removal impossible
Dog nose goo on window removal impossible
Forget about doing U turns unless the road is 6 lanes wide

** Note - Yesterday I did take a wrong turn and drove the wrong direction down a one way lane into a fire station and ended up in front of a firehouse with it's doors open, still facing the totally wrong direction, in front of 3 fire engines, and the Land Rovers drive to reverse to drive to reserve gear changing was very quick and smooth, it's 0-30mph get out of there pronto sport mode was quite impressive too (even in reverse).

Health News : Prevent obesity from age two experts

Health experts say that obesity should be prevented from childhood onwards, even at the age of two, when the kids reach a “tipping point”, a point at which they start gaining weight.

Noting that obesity was increasing at a fast rate, the researchers say that childhood obesity has developed into an epidemic, increasing the risk of health problems like diabetes type 2 diseases. All these make it relevant to prevent obesity from even childhood, the researchers points out.

After examining about 111 obese children, the researchers found that the kids started gaining weight at the average rate of .08 BMI units each month. It was seen that these kids started gaining weight when they were three months old. At just two years, half of the children fell into the category of overweight. Ninety per cent of these kids were obese before they reached their fifth year. The study says that when these children reach the age of eight, they fall into the overweight category and at this stage treatment could become difficult.

The study suggests that the doctors should have to review the children’s diet at a very early age. Obesity can be prevented by healthy food habits, they say.

Health News: Single life leads to dementia

A lonely life can lead to developing Alzheimer’s in the later stages of life, according to a Swedish study. Widowed, divorced and never remarried people are more at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

The study reveals that fifty per cent of the people who have lived alone in their 40’s and 50’s were likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease in their later years. The persons who were not middle aged when their life partner died and had lived their entire life all alone has six times more risk of developing the Alzheimer’s disease than the married ones. While the people who lived alone for their entire adulthood faced twice the risk of developing the disease, it was thrice the risk in people who were divorced in their middle ages.

The study points out that trauma, social and intellectual stimulation influenced Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers feel that the social interaction helps a great deal in the treatment of people with dementia. As a matter of fact, the researchers say that the intervention strategy should be augmented when considering the treatment cost of Alzheimer’s disease.

The ApoE Gene and psychotropic drugs also contribute more to the Alzheimer’s disease. Though there is a limit with the genetics, people should be encouraged to do things that would improve their traits.

It was found that the blood pressure levels of the patients who took garlic supplements had drastically come down. The study has found that the systolic blood pressure was reduced by an average of 4.6 mm HG with garlic takers. Patients with high blood pressure, the study has noted that the systolic blood pressure came down by 8.4 mm Hg and the diastolic blood pressure an average of 7.3 mm Hg.

The researchers claim that the garlic’s effects were similar to anti0hypertensive medicines, which are widely used.

The Lady of Jura has returned

Yes, not only has Lady Muck returned but I am now allowed to call myself Lady of Jura as my husband ( thank you for the applause) is none other than Laird of Jura!!
I apologise for not returning to you, all my loyal subjects, earlier but we have been working on plans for our Jura estate.
Firstly we have had to surround the whole property in electric fencing and put up 'No shootin' huntin' or fishin' signs plus 'No ball games' 'No Parking' and definitely 'No Politicians' Quite a busy time really.
Also we have had to buy the livestock - 2 hamsters, plus their feed, shelter, exercise equipment etc and that has taken some time.
We need to keep the hamsters fit as they are to keep the grass neat and tidy in our estate .... all 1 foot square of it. Oh, yes, I see I forgot to mention that.
Ah weel, it may be small but it is our estate and we love it ...not to mention the legal titles that go with it.
Now I do not want to bore you all by writing thousands of words about our honeymoon trip in the Republic of Ireland but suffice to say that it a very beautiful country and we had a fantastic time. Even the weather was good for us.
I did have what I thought was a great idea but my husband ( no need to applaud EVERY time I say that) pointed out the flaw. I thought we could both wear t-shirts spelling out 'Honeymooner' in the hope that we might be bought free drinks wherever we went, but as he said if he had to go to the loo then all people would see on his t-shirt was the word 'mooner' while I was ok with the word'honey' on mine. I guess he had a point but I still think it is a good idea. ( Patent pending so no stealing my idea)
One of the things we just HAD to do was kiss the Blarney stone!! For those of you who are ignorant of what this is for then I will explain.
Once one queues for an hour and makes ones way up to the top of Blarney
Castle, then an old man steadies and guides the visitor to lie down and lean over backwords to kiss a certain stone which is supposed to give one the gift of eloquence and to put it bluntly 'the gift of the gab'.
I was very proud to have actually managed the difficult yoga position required to kiss the stone and I have a certificate to prove it.
Several days after this event I asked my beloved ' Do you think that kissing the Blarney Stone has made any difference to me?' to which he promptly replied ' Yes, I think you now take shorter breaths between sentences!' What a brave sweet man he is , to be sure.
More to follow but not until you have all had a wee lie down to recover. You are a loyal lot though and 1st lady and I do appreciate you crazy... ooops I mean loyal readers.

Health Tip: Bone Mineral Density helps in determining breast cancer

The Bone Mineral Density in women may help in the determination of breast cancer risk, according to a recent study.

The study published in the journal Cancer notes the link between breast cancer and Bone Mineral Density in postmenopausal women. It says that if the Bone Mineral Density test is incorporated with other assessments like the Gail Model, will help in determining the risk of breast cancer in older women.

The researchers, who examined the risk factor in 9941 women, say that the higher Bone Mineral density, the higher risk of breast cancer.

In their study they took note of the hip BMD and the Gail scores for women. It was found that there was an increased risk of developing breast cancer in women with a high Gail score when compared to women with low Gail scores. The researches also found that an increase in hip BMD increased the risk of breast cancer by 25 per cent.

With confidence, they say that once the BMD and Gail scores are incorporated, the investigation of breast cancer is easy. They also point out that further studies were needed to see if the BMD and Gail scores could be incorporated in determining the breast cancer risk.

Health News: Energy drinks risks youngster’s behavior

Energy drinks has a direct connection with a student’s risky behavior. The U S researchers have found that youngsters who consume energy drinks frequently have a vigorous tendency to indulge in risky behavior.

The researches arrived at the conclusion after studying the behavioral patter of 795 students under the age group of 18 to 25 years. Out of the 795 students, 52 per cent were male students and the rest females. Thirty nine per cent of these students had consumed at least one energy drink a month and about 75 per cent of them had energy drinks mixed with alcohol.

Though there is no direct connection with the health, the energy drinks impact on the behavior. The researchers say that the students who consumed energy drinks frequently were seen to be indulged more in smoking, drugs, unsafe sex and physical fights than the students who didn’t take the drinks.

They claim that an eight-ounce energy drink contained 80 mg of caffeine. It also contains large doses of vitamins, amino acids, taurine and plant and herbal extracts. The researchers caution the parents and teachers about the frequent consumption of energy drinks. They also ask the parents and the teachers to constantly check on the students who use more of the energy drinks.

Health Tip: Thyrotropin causes Alzheimer in women

Women who have a low or high level of Hormone Thyrotropin, which affects thyroid gland functions and hormone levels, may have an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, a study says.

The Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which conducted the study, found that women having the lowest level of Hormone Thyrotropin ((less than one milli-international unit per liter) and those with the highest level (more than 2.1 milli-international units per liter) were more prone to Alzheimer’s disease.

The Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center between 1977 and 1979 chose 1,864 people of average age 71 years and took their thyrotropin levels. Every two years, these people were assessed for dementia. They found that about 209 people developed Alzheimer’s disease after an average 12.7 years.

However, the researchers have found no relation between thyrotropin and Alzheimer in men.

They point out that he changes in the thyrotropin level may damage neurons or the blood vessels, which lead s to the Alzheimer’s disease.

The researchers say that the findings should be validated among other people from other region before conclusions are reached. The study was published  in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
